Senior Substation Engineer (Physical Substation Design)
Job Description
As a Senior Substation Engineer focused on Physical Substation Design, you will deliver power systems consulting solutions and services that help protect and control critical electrical infrastructure. This onsite role in Pullman, WA supports customer needs worldwide, with responsibilities spanning technical leadership, engineered solution delivery, and safety-focused work practices.
Role Summary
This position provides expert engineering support in physical substations and power systems consulting. You will act as a technical authority on SEL equipment and solutions, review and approve work scopes and plans at a high quality standard, and support project management for engineered solutions. The role also includes mentoring responsibilities and environmental, health, and safety leadership.
Responsibilities
- Mentor engineers, specialists, and technicians.
- Serve as a technical expert in the design and application of SEL equipment and solutions, with a focus area on physical substations.
- Research, innovate, and develop new solutions and/or processes.
- Review, approve, and complete scopes, budgets, and schedules for assigned work with a high level of quality.
- Project manage and develop processes, lead training, and assist customers with creation, design, configuration, validation, review, installation, commissioning, and operation of engineered solutions.
- Provide environmental, health, and safety leadership by maintaining a safe workplace, supporting safety awareness and training, conducting accident investigations and reporting, and implementing safe and environmentally sound work practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering or an applicable discipline.
- 8+ years of working knowledge and experience of electric power systems or equivalent transferable knowledge and industry experience.
- Expert knowledge in the focus area, specifically Power Systems Consulting and Substations.
- Excellent technical training and skills.
- Willingness to travel at least 25% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience.
- Electrical utility, consulting, or system integrator experience.
- Extensive experience with power systems and customers.
- Working knowledge of Vision or other PM Tracking Software.
- Professional Engineer license (highly preferred).
Education
BS degree in Electrical Engineering or an applicable discipline.
Location
Pullman, WA (onsite). The company is also open to multiple locations.
Compensation
USD 136,100 - 170,300 per year. The salary range may be adjusted based on job and responsibilities and may differ if the role is filled at a different level.
