Senior Substation Engineer

Electric Power Systems Inc is hiring a Senior Substation Engineer in Olympia, WA to support electrical substation design for new construction and upgrades. The role combines technical studies, design deliverables, coordination across stakeholders, and onsite field support to ensure accurate, buildable outcomes.

Role Focus

As a Senior Substation Engineer, you will contribute to substation electrical design, planning, and analysis. Work includes producing design documentation, performing engineering studies, developing specifications for procurement and construction, and validating execution through field inspections and troubleshooting support.

Responsibilities

• Design and review substation layouts, plan and profiles, one-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, grounding layouts, and protective device drawings
• Perform engineering studies including short-circuit analysis, grounding analysis, voltage drop analysis, and equipment rating
• Develop technical specifications to support procurement and construction activities
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to manage and deliver design documentation
• Conduct field inspections and assist with troubleshooting efforts when needed
• Track project status, respond to client feedback, and ensure design accuracy throughout delivery

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), ABET Accredited
• 7+ years of experience in substation design or related electrical engineering
• Familiarity with applicable codes, including IEEE, NESC, and NEC
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• PE license is a plus, or willingness to obtain

Compensation

The salary range for this onsite role is USD 95,000 - 155,000 per yearly.
