Job Description

This onsite role in Pueblo, Colorado supports the Communications and Train Control team in shaping and evaluating CTC technologies, including Positive Train Control systems, railroad safety solutions, automation technology, and lifecycle management. The Senior Systems Engineer I will contribute to research, systems engineering, and verification activities across multiple projects with internal staff, railroad personnel, and vendor partners.

Location: Pueblo, CO (onsite) | Salary: $75,143 - $78,150 per year, DOQ
Responsibilities
- Deliver engineering and scientific services to internal and external customers as directed by the Staff Leader
- Apply systems engineering principles, requirements management, domain knowledge, and data analysis to research and engineer train control systems
- Contribute across project phases from concept and requirements through modeling, implementation, test planning, test execution, data analysis, presentations, and report writing
- Assist project leadership with proposals, planning, execution, customer interaction, and deliverable preparation
- Develop systems engineering documentation, including formal functional and performance requirements, interface specifications, and standards
- Participate in problem definition and technical needs analysis across CTC projects
- Support configuration management for standards and requirements using requirements management tools
- Develop system concepts and formal Concepts of Operations documents
- Perform requirements tracing within requirements management tools
- Define verification methods for requirements
- Research and evaluate train control and automation technology
- Work independently or within multidisciplinary teams including MxV Rail staff, railroad personnel, and vendor teams
- Support identification and development of project opportunities and technical capabilities for train control applications
- Ensure all duties are performed with safety in focus
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Participate in system safety activities to support the creation of engineering documentation
- Support the definition and execution of formal test cases and test programs
- Run simulations and analyze data related to train control systems
- Apply statistical methods to define requirements, processes, and standards
- Support technology research and development activities
- Collect, organize, and analyze data using common or customized tools
- Engage in project management and mentoring activities
Requirements
- Commitment to MxV Rail values (Momentum, Insight, Teamwork, Rigor, Purpose) in all aspects of work
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience
- Three to five years of professional engineering experience in systems engineering, train operations, or train control
- Experience with systems engineering concepts, including requirements analysis, system concept definition, and requirements definition, plus test methodology (test case definition and test design)
- Experience delivering practical solutions to open-ended problems
- Experience collaborating across organizational levels and with external partners
- Familiarity with developing formal systems engineering documentation
- Strong analytical and methodical problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and in a team within a hybrid work environment
- Familiarity with requirements management tools and requirements tracing activities
- Excellent verbal and written communication, including public speaking to technical audiences
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Compliance with MxV Rail background check and pre-employment drug screening requirements
- Experience with PTC related projects
- Experience testing system requirements, including test case management and traceability to system requirements
- Participation in industry standards setting or professional/technical organizations
- Experience with programming, computer-based analysis, CAD, and computer-based modeling
- Basic understanding of risk, threat, or hazard analysis
- RAM analysis concepts
- Proficiency in testing methods, data collection, analysis techniques, and reporting
- Willingness to travel up to approximately 15 percent for industry events and outreach
