Onsite in Schaumburg, Illinois GSG Consultants, Inc. offers a Senior Municipal/Water Resources Engineer role with a competitive salary range of $110,000 to $130,000 per year. This position centers on leading municipal infrastructure, stormwater, drainage, and site development programs from planning through construction, while serving as a trusted advisor to municipal clients and mentoring junior staff. Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of municipal infrastructure, stormwater, drainage, roadway, and site development projects.
  • Develop engineering concepts, plans, specifications, and construction documents for public and private sector projects.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, and client expectations to ensure successful project execution.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software is highly desirable.
  • Perform and oversee hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, stormwater modeling, and watershed evaluations.
  • Prepare and review drainage studies, watershed plans, stormwater management reports, floodplain analyses, and technical memoranda.
  • Review private development stormwater and utility submissions for compliance with municipal, county, watershed, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, regulatory agencies, utility companies, contractors, developers, and project stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering staff and support professional development initiatives.
  • Conduct project meetings, presentations, and client consultations.
  • Support business development efforts, proposal preparation, and client relationship management.
  • Oversee construction-phase services, including shop drawing review, RFI responses, site observations, and field inspections as needed.
  • Conduct site investigations and field evaluations to gather information necessary for project planning and design.
  • Utilize engineering software and industry-standard tools to perform analysis, design, and document preparation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois required
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in municipal engineering, water resources, stormwater management, or related civil engineering disciplines
  • Strong background in hydrology, hydraulics, drainage design, and stormwater management
  • Experience managing municipal infrastructure and capital improvement projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentoring staff
  • Thorough understanding of municipal, county, state, and watershed regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong client-facing experience
  • Experience with land development projects is desirable
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with stormwater modeling software such as HydroCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, ICPR, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with GIS applications and mapping software preferred
  • Knowledge of Illinois municipal permitting and regulatory processes is a plus
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred
