Software Engineer

Nodal Exchange is hiring a Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and continuously improve distributed software systems. Based in Tysons, VA 22182 with a hybrid work setup, this role emphasizes building reliable, high-performance software while partnering with stakeholders to align technical work with customer needs.

In this position, you will contribute to automated testing, help review requirements for completeness and clarity, and deliver demos to the organization to gather feedback. The role is also part of an on-call rotation in line with industry practices, and it is overtime-exempt.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, test, maintain, and improve distributed software systems that balance high performance with stability
• Build automated tests to support software quality
• Deliver demonstrations across the organization and actively seek feedback to improve work
• Review requirements for completeness and clarity, collaborating with stakeholders and customers to connect technical constraints with customer needs
• Participate in an on-call rotation, aligned with industry practices

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field and 2+ years of experience
• Strong programming skills in Java or Kotlin, with solid understanding of Object Oriented Design
• Knowledge or experience with Spring Boot, Docker, relational databases, and Git
• Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate multiple solutions
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues
• Genuine interest in coding and automation, with maturity to learn new technologies to solve business problems
• Confidence in your own ideas and openness to others’ ideas

Nice to Have

• Experience leveraging AI coding assistants (examples include Claude Code or Cursor) to accelerate development cycles while maintaining full ownership of code quality to keep production stable
• Experience with database optimization, performance improvement, benchmark and testing
• Familiarity with Hazelcast or Redis, Jmeter, ReactJS, RabbitMQ or Kafka, CI/CD, Grafana, and Prometheus
• General knowledge of derivative trading

Salary and Work Authorization

The base salary range is $90,000 to $130,000 per year when annualized, based on the D.C. metro area. The starting salary will vary depending on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as qualifications, skills, and experience. Full-time applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
