Software Engineer

Software Design Engineer focused on building and maintaining Python-based desktop and testing solutions for high-speed electrical interconnect development.

Responsibilities

• Apply software knowledge and entrepreneurial problem-solving to address business needs across design, manufacturing, testing, and verification
• Design, develop, modify, and maintain Python modules used for product testing and qualification during product development and manufacturing
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and signal integrity engineers to deliver software solutions for high-speed and low-speed electrical performance testing
• Build and enhance Python desktop software to expand and improve capabilities across global manufacturing centers
• Partner with engineering teams to create tools that improve the design workflow and engineering efficiency, including feature implementation, configuration, and application development
• Continuously learn and adopt new technologies to keep Python and software skills current
• Perform code reviews and design reviews, including unit testing, to improve reliability and performance
• Review test results, produce reports, and implement required software changes
• Document software solutions and share knowledge with other engineers
• Demonstrate proficiency in Python development and standard software verification and validation practices
• Explore and contribute to new concepts and innovative solutions

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics/Computer Science/Systems Engineering
• 3+ years of experience designing Python-based desktop applications
• At least 2 years of practical Python development experience building tools and applications that support testing and validation workflows
• Knowledge of software architecture and design principles with emphasis on usability, extensibility, and performance for tools
• Extensive experience with source control tools such as Git or SVN
• Understanding of bug tracking software such as JIRA
• Ability to develop and maintain software in Python
• Demonstrated understanding of standard software verification and validation techniques

• Software Solution Group (SSG), central software team within the Copper Solutions Business Unit (CSBU) of the Datacom & Specialty Solutions (DSS) division
• Works across the organization to deliver production setup applications for product families and stand-alone tools that address challenges across the business

• Exposure to hardware systems, electrical interconnects, or manufacturing processes, especially testing and quality assurance
• Experience writing strong test cases
• Exposure to scientific Python libraries and tools such as NumPy, Pandas, and Anaconda
• Proven ability to build reusable software libraries, APIs, and frameworks for use by other engineers and testers
