Job Description

Walmart is hiring a Software Engineer III in Bentonville, AR (onsite) to lead the design and development of scalable software solutions. This role partners with cross-functional teams, resolves complex production issues, and manages initiatives from requirements through deployment, while providing technical guidance to smaller engineering groups.

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer III, you will collaborate with product management and user experience to define high-level designs and translate requirements into technical solutions. The position includes managing projects end-to-end through coding, testing, and deployment while maintaining quality and security standards. You will join Walmart Engineering to help design and scale cloud-native platforms that support a large enterprise ecosystem.

The team builds resilient, automated systems using Java, Spring Boot, React, Node, GCP, and Azure. Engineers take ownership across the stack, including API design, distributed services, CI/CD pipelines, and developer tools. The team also focuses on integrating generative AI to improve productivity and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define high-level designs and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Develop, test, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-quality code aligned to established standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production and business issues using root cause analysis and effective problem-solving.
  • Lead small engineering groups by providing guidance, documentation, and mentorship to support timely delivery.
  • Implement automation scripts and telemetry features that support continuous integration and deployment processes.
  • Monitor application performance, conduct maintenance activities, and evaluate change requests for feasibility and impact.
  • Support business users by responding to technical inquiries and recommending sustainable solutions aligned with business goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering software design, development, and delivery within Agile environments.
  • Strong proficiency in object-oriented programming and languages such as JavaScript, Python, or C#.
  • Expertise in cloud-native architecture and platform design, including API and component services development.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex production issues effectively.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation scripting.
  • Ability to analyze requirements, develop technical solutions, and ensure scalability and maintainability.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally and mentoring small engineering teams to achieve project goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area, plus 2 years of software engineering or related experience.
  • Option 2: 4 years of software engineering or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area (Masters: Computer Science).
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, including knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and experience aligning products and services to Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses, and may include stock for certain positions.
