Sr. Associate Data Engineer

Join The Travelers Companies, Inc. in Hartford, CT to support the growth and transformation of an enterprise analytics landscape. In this onsite role, you will design, build, operationalize, and deploy data solutions that help teams capture, explore, transform, and apply data to support Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and business intelligence and insights.

What you’ll do

• Build and operationalize data solutions, troubleshoot problems, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing or quality improvements.
• Participate in the design of data solutions and help determine what data sources provide analytical value.
• Incorporate core data management practices, including data governance, data security, and data quality.
• Collaborate with team and business users to support delivery and educate end users on data products and the analytics environment.
• Conduct data and system analysis to assess and resolve defects or incidents of moderate complexity, correcting issues as appropriate.
• Test data movement, transformation code, and data components.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM related field (or equivalent).
• Five years of related experience.
• Experience leveraging OpenAI and AWS Bedrock to drive innovative projects.
• Technical proficiency with Python, SQL, AWS, and Databricks (plus additional skills to build robust AI applications).
• Terraform expertise to streamline infrastructure management and deployment.
• Proficiency using cloud platforms, programming languages, and software engineering practices.
• Ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace, decompose assignments into small batch releases, and contribute to tradeoff and negotiation discussions.
• Demonstrated domain expertise, including understanding technical concepts and in-depth knowledge of systems worked on.
• Proven problem solving skills, including debugging unfamiliar code or systems and recognizing and resolving recurring issues.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to work with team members and business partners.
• Intermediate leadership skills, including self-motivation to identify personal growth opportunities.
• Developing knowledge of tools and techniques across cloud platforms, programming languages, and software engineering practices.
• Additional education and/or experience: a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related STEM, or equivalent education/work experience, plus 1 additional year of software/data engineering experience.

Compensation and benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is USD 94,400 - 155,800, with actual compensation determined by factors such as scope, complexity, location, and the candidate’s skills, education, training, credentials, experience, and other conditions of employment. Employees may also be eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.
