Job Description
Sr. Compliance Engineer will act as the technical subject-matter expert for global product compliance and certifications across the hardware portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Own global compliance strategy, including country-by-country certification matrices, budgets, and target-market schedules
- Separate mandatory regulatory requirements from value-add optional certifications (example: ENERGY STAR, EPEAT)
- Lead safety certifications with NRTLs such as UL, MET, Intertek/ETL, CSA, and TÜV, applying hazard-based safety engineering approaches (example: IEC/UL/CSA 62368-1)
- Execute construction reviews and manage fault and thermal testing; evaluate safety-critical components
- Support factory surveillance audits
- Manage market-access documentation and processes including CE marking, UKCA, and leveraging the CB Scheme across North America, LATAM, APAC, and EMEA via local representatives and in-country testing when required
- Coordinate emissions and immunity testing (example: FCC, ISED, CE EMC) and global radio approvals for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, and NFC modules
- Oversee energy efficiency and telecom interface compliance
- Run substance and recycling compliance programs with RoHS, REACH, WEEE, California Prop 65, and Conflict Minerals in collaboration with supply chain and quality teams
- Translate regulatory standards into actionable engineering requirements during early-stage product architecture
- Lead pre-compliance design reviews covering schematics, PCB layouts, power architectures, and enclosures; drive root-cause analysis for test failures
- Maintain technical construction files and compliance deliverables across the product lifecycle, including Declarations of Conformity (DoC), regulatory labeling, user manual warnings, and certified BOM traceability
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of experience in product compliance, regulatory engineering, or product safety certification for hardware and electronics
- Hands-on experience obtaining NRTL certifications (UL, MET, ETL, CSA, TÜV) and coordinating testing with third-party laboratories
- Working knowledge of global regulatory schemes including CE marking, FCC, ISED, and international market-access procedures
- Ability to read and assess electrical schematics, PCB layouts, mechanical drawings, and component specifications
- Proven ability to manage multiple certification projects, budgets, and lab schedules in parallel
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally to support test labs, manufacturing sites, and vendor facilities
- Deep expertise in IEC/UL/CSA 62368-1 and hazard-based safety engineering
- Experience certifying rack-mounted servers, enterprise networking products, data-center hardware, power supplies, or battery systems
- Direct experience integrating wireless modules, performing global radio approvals, and working through the CB Scheme process
- Familiarity with voluntary environmental programs including ENERGY STAR, EPEAT, TCO Certified, and 80 PLUS
- Professional certification or formal training in Product Safety, EMC, or Risk Management

Salary: USD 140,000 - 155,000 per year
