Sr. Data Engineer

Build and operate scalable data systems for streaming analytics and content delivery in a hybrid role with NBCUniversal’s Content Delivery Engineering (CDE) team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain new and existing data systems and pipelines, emphasizing reliability, testability, and ease of use
• Support data preparation for modeling, including cleansing, discretization, imputation, selection, and generalization
• Partner with business stakeholders to define business requirements, including KPI and acceptance criteria
• Use big data plus relational and non-relational data sources to retrieve data at the appropriate granularity for analytical projects
• Stay current on relevant dataset structures and contribute to upgrades and modifications
• Collaborate with software and data architects on real-time and automated batch implementations of data science solutions and integrate them into the streaming service architecture
• Drive a consistent, diligent peer review approach for code and configuration changes within well-maintained repository structures and CI/CD pipelined deployments
• Participate in, or lead, design reviews, architectural discussions, and team knowledge-sharing sessions
• Leverage observability systems and advanced analytics to surface issues, diagnose root causes, and develop fixes

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a relevant field
• 5+ years of experience with big data: ETL, pipeline building, analysis, and code; expertise in at least one programming language
• Experience building scalable, distributed, highly available, and resilient systems using industry standard data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, GCP, AWS, etc.)
• Comfort working with software repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation
• Experience with data visualization tools and techniques
• Strong SQL skills for data processing
• Experience applying Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to ensure scalability and reliability in cloud environments
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban
• Strong communication skills via design documents, text, voice, and code across diverse audiences
• CDN experience delivering streaming media is advantageous; training may be provided
