Sr. Electrical Design Engineer
Job Description
W. G. Yates & Sons Construction Company is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for its Greenville, SC office. In this onsite role, you will lead heavy industrial electrical design efforts and coordinate closely with multi-discipline teams to keep electrical scope, documentation, and schedules aligned with project needs.
This position emphasizes consulting engineering experience, deep technical knowledge across distribution and lighting, and the ability to manage deliverables from early scope capture through final checks and vendor coordination.
Responsibilities
- Provide lead electrical engineering and design support for heavy industrial projects
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure project scope details are captured accurately
- Capture electrical engineering project scope using general arrangements, P&IDs, and process equipment lists
- Develop, finalize, and check electrical engineering documentation, including load lists, single line diagrams, motor elementaries, electrical room layouts, grounding plans and details, lighting plans, power plans with raceway routes, cable lists, and electrical equipment specifications
- Coordinate with project schedules to incorporate electrical design activities and their logic ties with other disciplines’ design work
- Review documentation with process equipment vendors to identify electrical scope and design requirements
- Travel to client sites to gather field information and work with electrical client counterparts
- Lead electrical project teams, including engineers and designers
- Mentor other electrical engineers
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Ability to obtain PE registration is required
- At least 10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience with an emphasis in consulting engineering
- Knowledgeable in applying the National Electrical Code and in electrical distribution system design
- Experience with electrical equipment specifications and electrical requirements for hazardous area classifications
- Strong grounding and lighting design experience
- Extensive experience working across engineering disciplines to capture and refine project scope details
- Experience capturing electrical scope using general arrangements, P&IDs, and process equipment lists
- Experience developing, finalizing, and checking electrical engineering documentation such as load lists, single line diagrams, motor elementaries, electrical room layouts, grounding plans and details, lighting plans, power plans with raceway routes, cable lists, and electrical equipment specifications
- Experience coordinating electrical design activities with project schedules and cross-discipline logic ties
- Extensive experience reviewing process equipment vendor documentation to identify electrical scope and design requirements
- Ability to travel to client sites to gather engineering field information and coordinate with electrical client counterparts
- Working knowledge of CAD software, including AutoCAD and Revit
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience mentoring other electrical engineers
