Sr. Electron Optics Engineer

San Jose, CA Full time Posted 3d ago

Job Description

ASML is hiring a Sr. Electron Optics Engineer to lead technically complex development of electron optical modules and parts. In this onsite role in San Jose, CA, you will help deliver electron optical systems by owning solutions end-to-end, aligning across teams and suppliers, and supporting research goals through design, integration, testing/qualification support, and project coordination.

What you’ll do

  • Take the lead in developing complex module parts and/or drives, owning a technically complex solution and delivering it with industrialization in mind.
  • Lead multiple technically complex mono-disciplinary designs or a functional design, with full technical ownership from feasibility through detailed design.
  • Collaborate across multiple teams and trains, including alignment with adjacent groups and work with engineers in other trains.
  • Support less-defined environments by taking lead interface responsibilities with suppliers, customers, other projects, and other engineering disciplines (for example, new supplier or NPI product).
  • Perform critical design engineering tasks in cooperation with other disciplines and suppliers, maintaining a cross-project view, specifying, designing, developing, testing, and supporting project planning and management as well as competency development.
  • Introduce and drive new technical approaches within your submodule domain.
  • Support architects/PLs/POs with work breakdown for features and work packages, including performance breakdown in your (sub-)module scope.
  • Advise Cluster Project Leaders, SE, and managers within your expertise area, and guide the work of peers (typically 3–5 engineers).
  • Drive execution of design activities to deliver electron optical systems and solutions, achieving specific goals for a designated portion of a research program.

Design, requirements, feasibility, and verification

  • Work within established research systems to identify, elicit, analyze, and document product and/or project requirements, manage requirements throughout the project lifecycle, and coordinate verification of end deliverables (generally at the project level).
  • Conduct feasibility studies from both technological and organizational perspectives, document findings, and complete cost-benefit analysis for proposed changes to business processes, products, or business unit structure.
  • Specify and design engineering solution feasibility testing approaches, supervise implementation, and contribute to validation and development of engineering solutions.
  • Develop technical concepts including material choices, make technical choices across all phases, solve technical issues, and devise new approaches when challenges arise.

Testing, documentation, integration, and safety

  • Prepare high-level design for the (sub-)module that meets requirements while addressing architectural and interface choices, then detail the design and associated documentation.
  • Document high-level and detailed design in relevant SEG documents, ensuring complex design choices and specifications stay up to date and underlying assumptions and restrictions are recorded.
  • Integrate sub-systems into the system, execute configuration management, and provide support to projects.
  • Contribute to Qualification, Integration, and Production Test specification, design and produce related test tools, realize qualification through proto production, execute tests, and report results.
  • Develop product specifications and design test procedures and standards, validate new or existing complex test methods and procedures, and recommend improvements.
  • Adhere to ASML EHS policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions by identifying and mitigating safety risks and safeguarding the environment and well-being of yourself and others, including instructing the team on safe working methods and escalating serious issues as appropriate.

Project collaboration and execution support

  • Oversee dependencies between project team tasks, assist PO/PL in planning, proactively signal risk of not delivering on spec and in time, and lead teamwork breakdown from features to daily tasks.
  • Deliver weekly deliverables and carry out assigned departmental projects.
  • Provide PO/PL input for upcoming features including content and high level effort estimates.
  • Stay current on technical developments in your expertise and in general developments affecting ASML, contributing to broadening and maintenance of ASML’s technology base, and acquire knowledge of neighboring FCs/ICs.

Requirements

  • Master degree with thorough experience, or equivalent working and thinking level.
  • Ability to technically lead an engineering team and advise management.
  • Complex sub-module knowledge within your area of expertise.
  • Solid knowledge of neighboring parts/areas of expertise within the module.
  • Complex module and system knowledge, including how it interacts with other sub-systems.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance.
  • 401k plan.
  • Eight (8) hours of vacation leave every month.
  • 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
