Sr. Embedded Systems Security Engineer
Job Description
Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Security Engineer for its Product Cybersecurity Engineering DoD East Massachusetts team. This onsite role supports US military and protected communication systems programs, with a focus on cybersecurity engineering activities across requirements, architecture, verification, and RMF documentation. Work will take place in Marlborough, MA, with an active Secret clearance required prior to day 1.
Role focus
In this position, you will decompose and allocate cybersecurity requirements using system engineering practices, then support the development of security-relevant design artifacts. You will also participate in system design discussions, contribute cybersecurity engineering input, and help ensure allocated requirements are verified through planned test activities and remediation recommendations. A key part of the work includes producing and maintaining cybersecurity documentation aligned to Risk Management Framework expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Support cybersecurity requirement decomposition, allocation, implementation, and verification using system engineering practices, including guidance related to security technologies.
- Support defining cybersecurity requirements, design, and architecture artifacts.
- Participate in system design discussions and provide cybersecurity engineering input.
- Collaborate with systems engineers and developers to integrate cybersecurity considerations into system design.
- Participate in cybersecurity focused System Verification and Validation, including writing test plans and procedures, performing test conduct, and providing remediation recommendations.
- Prepare and maintain cybersecurity-related documentation, including Risk Management Framework System Security Plan, Risk Assessment Report, and Plan of Actions and Milestones.
- Collaborate with program and engineering disciplines to support cybersecurity solution alternatives.
- Contribute to a team culture centered on collaboration and continuous learning.
- Maintain awareness of evolving security threats and industry best practices as a member of the System Security Engineering Team.
Required qualifications
- Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with minimum 3 years of experience.
- ACTIVE and transferable Secret U.S. government-issued security clearance is required prior to the start date.
- U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for security clearances.
- Experience with system requirement definition, allocation, and decomposition, preferably with embedded systems.
- Experience generating Verification Items (VIs) and determining formal verification methods (inspection, analysis, demonstration, and/or test) for allocated requirements.
- Experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, JIRA, and Confluence, including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as JAMA and CAMEO.
Preferred qualifications
- Active and transferable TOP SECRET clearance.
- Experience in cybersecurity, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and embedded cryptography.
- Experience with National Security Agency (NSA) cryptographic certification.
- Cybersecurity-related certifications (e.g., CISSP, Security+).
- Familiarity with Program Protection Plan (PPP) and Program Protection Implementation Plan (PPIP) required by DoDI 5000.2 and DoDI 5200.39.
- Willingness to learn about satellite systems, communication systems, and evolving security technologies.
- Willingness to develop professional skills in cybersecurity, RMF, and embedded cryptography.
- Self-starter with limited direction and minimal supervision.

Compensation and location

- Salary: USD 86,800 - 165,200 per year
