Sr. NPD Engineer
Job Description
The Senior NPD Engineer partners with merchandising to oversee private-brand engineering initiatives, benchmark product requirements, and address performance concerns while analyzing cost implications across assigned categories.
Responsibilities
- 50% Engineering project management including benchmarking, product requirement development, and test protocol development
- 30% Conduct financial and value based calculations, summarize the findings for the business in presentation quality format and communicate findings to key stakeholders
- 10% Complete resolution of product performance concerns
- 10% Provide general product engineering guidance and knowledge or evaluations as required to deliver short term business goals

Position purpose
The Senior New Product Development (NPD) Engineer serves as a business partner to the merchandising team, managing and supporting private-brand engineering projects. The engineer collaborates with internal teams to complete benchmarking, product requirement development, and resolution of product performance concerns for assigned product categories. The role also utilizes Bills of Materials and internal tools and data to understand raw materials, manufacturing, labor, logistics, and related costs.
Direct Manager / Direct Reports
Reports to Engineering Manager. No direct reports.
Travel Requirements
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10 percent of the time.
Physical Requirements
Most of the time is spent seated, standing or walking, with occasional lifting or handling of material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).
Working Conditions
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years old
- Authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent in a related field
- Masters of Business Administration
- Product costing experience
- Extensive understanding of Bills of Materials
- Knowledge of Merchandising Financial terms
- Knowledge of INCO shipping terms
- Experience in manufacturing and product development environments including design for reduced manufacturing and assembly costs
- Experience working with OEM suppliers through the product development cycle
- Experience with vertically integrated manufacturers

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
