Job Description

Datadog’s Application Performance Monitoring (APM) team is seeking a Staff-level software engineer to lead agentic GenAI/ML work that moves from research to production. This role partners across teams to design, train, evaluate, and deploy models at scale, while helping build automated investigation and triaging capabilities that support end users.

Role Overview

This position serves as a technical leader within the APM organization. The focus is on applying GenAI and machine learning to create models and workflows that support automated investigation and triaging, with an emphasis on scaling and reliability in a product-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead GenAI and machine learning initiatives within the APM organization, taking projects from concept through production delivery.
  • Design, build, and benchmark GenAI/ML models using state-of-the-art approaches.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create automated investigation and triaging tools.
  • Bring a product mindset to engineering execution, advocating for the end user in day-to-day technical decisions.
  • Provide technical direction for teams navigating ambiguity, scaling constraints, and evolving requirements.
  • Mentor engineers and shape engineering culture through leadership in design reviews, technical talks, and working groups.

Required Qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD in a scientific field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience, including experience acting as a technical lead.
  • Demonstrated record of leading large-scale GenAI/ML programs in a product-driven context.
  • Significant experience across model deployment, development, training, fine-tuning, and/or evaluation.
  • Ability to drive initiatives across cross-functional teams and handle ambiguous technical challenges.

Compensation

USD 234,000 per year
