Staff Software Engineer
Job Description
Realtor.com is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead Organic Growth Engineering as the Technical SEO & Social Lead. In this individual-contributor role, you will own the platform systems, tooling, reliability, and technical direction behind organic search and organic social sharing and deep linking across Realtor.com. The position reports into Engineering and partners closely with Organic Growth product teams to translate business goals into technical execution.
What you’ll own
- Technical SEO at scale, including crawl budget approach, indexation, canonicalization, robots, sitemaps, and rendering across millions of pages, plus QA testing methodology and regression-testing standards before production changes.
- Technical standards and hands-on ownership of the highest-leverage problems yourself.
- Organic social sharing and deeplinking strategy, owning how shared listing links resolve, including AppsFlyer link generation, attribution, and in-app vs. web fallback, and defining share-link reliability in the same disciplined way as crawl-path correctness.
- SEO and deeplinking incident response by diagnosing boundary-crossing issues across the dependent systems, including edge and delivery, bot management, routing, rendering, content services, and attribution/MMP infrastructure, and driving the right owners to resolution.
- An escalation framework that runs war rooms and ensures every post-mortem results in new alerts, gates, and runbooks.
- Reliability direction for SEO and social sharing by defining SLOs/SLIs and an on-call model with the observability engineer, covering crawl/indexation health and deeplink resolution/attribution health.
- Visibility into changes that impact SEO and sharing, providing a single reviewed view of what is shipping that touches organic-critical pages or the share/deeplink path with Organic Growth PMs (including the Director, Organic Growth).
- Log-file, crawl-budget, and deeplink performance analysis, including what to look for in crawler behavior (crawl waste, over-crawl patterns, index drift) and in deeplink performance (resolution failure rate, attribution loss, in-app vs. web fallback rate), with data/observability pipelines built by the observability/data engineer.
- Raising the technical bar through engineering standards, leading design reviews, and mentoring engineers through the work rather than via a reporting line.
- Partnering closely with the Organic Growth product team, where they own the product roadmap, KPIs, and business accountability for SEO/AEO and organic social, while you own the “how” in the platform underneath.
Required qualifications
- Experience with federated GraphQL and API gateway architectures, plus familiarity with CDN, WAF, and bot-management layers.
- Familiarity with search engine indexing APIs and with dynamic-rendering or prerender approaches.
- Direct experience with AppsFlyer (or Branch/Adjust) SDK integration, OneLink/deferred deep linking, and attribution reconciliation.
- Experience defining SLOs and real-time alerting for a customer-facing platform.
- Prior experience standing up or re-platforming an SEO engineering function.
- Strong backend engineering skills, with proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript (Node), comfortable owning production services.
- Rendering fluency with React / Next.js and the SEO implications of SSR, SSG, ISR, and CSR, including debugging hydration and crawler-rendering issues.
- Data and analysis skills using SQL against a cloud data warehouse for log-file, crawl-budget, and deeplink-performance analysis.
- CI/CD and automation experience, including regression gates or automated quality checks in a delivery pipeline.
- Cross-team technical leadership as an IC, including the ability to drive fixes and influence design across teams without positional authority, and to act as calm incident commander.
- Fluency with AI coding assistants on production code, including the ability to recognize incorrect output.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, plus 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience owning technical SEO or crawl/rendering infrastructure.

Role context
The goal is to become the #1 non-brand destination in organic search and answer engines while building the ultimate property listing sharing experience for real estate. Several systems that affect SEO and social sharing are owned by partner teams, so the work includes understanding how those systems connect and driving the right owners to the fix.
