Job Description

News Corp is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join Realtor.com’s Owners and Sellers team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will take ownership of mission-critical platforms and drive initiatives that improve both consumer experience and business outcomes, using modern full-stack and cloud capabilities to scale performance and reliability.

Working in a team that partners across Product, Design, and Engineering, you will help shape technical direction, deliver end-to-end solutions, and strengthen engineering execution through architectural rigor, operational excellence, and thoughtful use of AI-assisted development.

What you will do

  • Own key parts of the Owners and Sellers platform by defining service boundaries, contracts, and data models between systems.
  • Participate in and lead architecture conversations, contributing to technical design documents and implementation proposals.
  • Collaborate across squads with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers from early discovery and technical design through implementation, rollout, and post-launch iteration.
  • Improve stability, readability, and scalability across backend services and frontend architecture, including React and Next.js best practices.
  • Drive performance gains and optimize Core Web Vitals, including INP metrics, across pages.
  • Support operational excellence by ensuring services meet SLAs, influencing incident response, and working to reduce incident volume and MTTR.
  • Partner with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and Designers to sequence work that supports business goals and platform health.
  • Use AI coding assistants and LLMs to accelerate development, generate boilerplate, and troubleshoot complex debugging scenarios, while applying critical judgment to validate security and accuracy.
  • Provide technical leadership through coaching junior to Staff engineers and reviewing PRs for high-risk changes, while aligning teams on shared patterns.

What you bring

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, including significant time in large-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong full-stack experience, with extensive frontend development focused on TypeScript, React, and Apollo GraphQL, plus backend proficiency with Node.js and GraphQL.
  • Proven experience using modern AI-assisted SDLC environments and agents (for example, Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) and the ability to drive AI adoption at scale.
  • Experience designing and operating cloud-native services on AWS, including EKS, container technologies like Docker, and managed databases, along with CI/CD orchestration such as CircleCI, ArgoCD, and Kubernetes.
  • Solid foundation in system design, data modeling, API design, responsive design principles, and CSS technologies like PandaCSS and CSS3.
  • Comfort working with observability tooling (metrics, logs, traces) such as NewRelic and Splunk, using data to debug, optimize, and harden production systems.
  • Ability to set technical direction, align multiple teams without formal authority, and explain complex trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering/related field or equivalent professional experience.
