Job Description

Lincoln Electric Products Co. is seeking a Switchgear Electrical Design Engineer to shape the design, development, and ongoing support of low-voltage switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, and control panels for manufacturing. This onsite role in Union, New Jersey requires direct experience in switchgear manufacturing and hands-on CAD work within a fast-paced production environment. The position is full-time and exempt, reporting to the Manager of Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop low-voltage switchgear and switchboards for manufacturing using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and control diagrams for use in production.
  • Assist in selecting and specifying switchgear components, including circuit breakers, contactors, transformers, and related elements.
  • Conduct breaker coordination, perform load calculations, and analyze kAIC requirements.
  • Support busbar sizing, layout, and thermal considerations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve wiring, layout, and component issues that arise during production.
  • Review and improve existing designs for efficiency, manufacturability, and cost optimization.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, manufacturing/assembly teams, technicians, and other professionals to ensure electrical systems integrate with mechanical systems.
  • Stay current with industry standards, best practices, and new technologies related to switchgear design and manufacturing.
  • Ensure designs comply with UL 891, UL 67, UL 508A, and NEC requirements.

Requirements

  • Direct experience working for a switchgear or switchboard manufacturing company is required.
  • Proven experience designing switchgear and switchboards produced and assembled in a production environment.
  • Experience designing equipment that is directly built and assembled in a manufacturing facility.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical design software.
  • Experience creating wiring diagrams and panel layouts for manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of UL standards (UL 891, UL 508A) and NEC codes.
  • Experience supporting production or shop floor troubleshooting.

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer will bring direct switchgear or switchboard manufacturing experience to design, develop, and support the production of low-voltage switchboards (UL 891), panelboards (UL 67), and control panels (UL 508A). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience creating panel layouts and wiring diagrams used in manufacturing and will contribute quickly in a fast-paced environment with minimal onboarding. Candidates without direct switchgear/switchboard manufacturing experience will not be considered. The role is full-time and exempt, reporting to the Manager of Electrical Engineering.

Working Conditions

Primarily office-based with regular interaction on the manufacturing floor. This is an onsite position located in Union, NJ.
