This role centers on the safe and reliable operation of mechanical systems in an industrial setting, based onsite in East Chicago, Indiana. The RC Maintenance Engineer leads rotating equipment maintenance and reliability initiatives with regional support, responds to unplanned events, and drives continuous improvement through predictive maintenance and root cause analysis.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical resource for maintaining rotating equipment including compressors, turbines, blowers, pumps, and associated gearboxes and gearing systems.
- Maintain fixed equipment such as heat exchangers, coolers, and cold box systems.
- Oversee auxiliary systems including chillers, cooling towers, and water treatment systems.
- Lead predictive maintenance programs, such as vibration analysis and oil analysis, and ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
- Lead or assist in root cause analysis activities as needed.
- Identify and address chronic mechanical asset concerns (bad actors).
- Develop and execute small reliability-improvement projects with costs under $100,000 either as expenses or capital.
- Assist in resolution planning for long-term mechanical asset reliability concerns.
- Assess equipment performance data and drive activities to optimize reliability and efficient operation.
- Assist in estimating costs for corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, and/or projects.
- Assist in turnaround planning and execution.
- Apply Six Sigma methodologies to continuously improve Reliability.
- Drive resolution of high-impact issues with urgency and integrity.
Requirements
- Education: Associate or Bachelor degree in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, rotating equipment maintenance, or reliability engineering within an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Alternative path: Non-degreed candidates with at least 15 years of rotating equipment maintenance and reliability experience in an industrial manufacturing setting may be considered.
- Level I vibration analysis certification (preferred).
- Proven installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting experience with mechanical equipment such as compressors, turbines, blowers, pumps, heat exchangers, cold box systems, chillers, and cooling towers.
- Working knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
- Strong communication, team interaction, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to lead or participate on cross-functional teams.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve results with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with standard computer software (MS Office, email, etc.).
