This fast paced, cross-functional team supports the full product lifecycle, from customer configuration development and supplier engagement to validating design requirements, integrating business needs, and guiding the product through production and certification. You will collaborate with project engineering, production engineering, program teams, management and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions, leveraging the interiors organization to deliver best-in-class interiors products. We are hiring for a broad range of experience levels, including Experienced (Level 3) and Senior (Level 4) Designer Engineers in the North Charleston area.
Role scope and opportunities
The Payloads organization within Boeing Commercial Aircraft 787 Program is recruiting experienced engineers for several roles, including BFE Monuments, Lighting, Monuments - Lavatories & Galleys, Certification, Configuration, Production Integration - Process/Tools, and Livery. The selected candidate will have a statement of work spanning the product lifecycle, including customer configuration development, supplier engagement, verification and validation of design requirements, and production and certification support. Final responsibility may reside in any of the Interiors organizations listed above, with assignment determined by best fit and experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support and lead projects within a production system context
- Engage directly with aerospace suppliers or airlines
- Validate and demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with regulators as part of the certification process
- Impart design for manufacturing principles into the work
- Design, integrate, and or certify aircraft cargo compartments and handling systems
- Operate under general direction and take on final responsibility as appropriate
- Potential assignment within Interiors organizations based on fit and experience
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace/Aeronautical or Materials Sciences
- 3+ years of engineering experience including design, integration, and or certification, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Level 4: 5+ years of engineering experience in design, integration, and or certification or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Strong understanding and demonstrated experience with FAA Title 14 Part 25 and or EASA equivalent
- Experience in aerospace interiors, materials and properties, design criteria and release processes
- 5+ years of program or project management experience, leading proposals and programs of varying complexity (including schedule milestones, financial assessments, resource assessments, risk and issues management)
- Experience leading a cross-functional team
- Good problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to use a variety of media to clearly convey information to diverse audiences
- Demonstrated interest in continuous personal learning and development

The salary information below is a general guideline and depends on candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Salary
- Experienced Level 3: $103,700 - $140,300
- Senior Level 4: $126,650 - $171,350
