Job Description
Based on-site in Melbourne, Florida, this Senior Certification Engineer role leads end-to-end certification for avionics across both fixed- and rotary-wing platforms, partnering with regulators to secure airworthiness approvals.
Responsibilities
- Own certification projects for avionics systems or subsystems from initial planning through final approval.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities, DERs, and auditors to obtain approvals and close compliance gaps.
- Develop certification strategies to satisfy FAA, EASA, and global airworthiness standards.
- Create and manage certification artifacts including certification plans, test reports, IMs, PGAs, compliance matrices, and ICAs.
- Define overall certification strategy and means of compliance.
- Collaborate with systems, software, and hardware engineers to embed certification requirements across design and development.
- Coordinate conformity inspections, audits, and reviews with FAA, EASA, and DERs.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Identify opportunities to streamline internal processes and contribute to certification best practices.
- Stay current with evolving regulations and drive process improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Aerospace, or a related Engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of certification or systems engineering experience, or 3+ years with a Master’s degree.
- Proven experience managing FAA certification programs (TSO, STC, or TC).
- Hands-on knowledge of DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754A, and ARP4761 compliance standards.
- Experience coordinating with regulatory authorities and DERs.
- Detail-oriented engineer who thrives on clarity and takes ownership of complex certification efforts.
- Excellent communication, documentation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead certification efforts with minimal supervision.
