AI Engineer

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi is seeking an AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy machine learning models and AI solutions that support patient care delivery, predictive diagnostics, and clinical operations. In this onsite role in Flowood, MS, you will coordinate with cross-functional teams to improve workflows and help deliver scalable AI-driven infrastructure across the organization.

Role Overview

You will coordinate the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle, from identifying data needs through production maintenance. The work involves partnering with business users, data engineers, and developers to integrate AI solutions into services and products, while also enabling leadership visibility through analysis, reporting, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and coordinate development of AI solutions aligned to the strategic needs of business areas across the organization.
• Support the full machine learning lifecycle, including identifying data, building models, and maintaining solutions in production.
• Implement best practices for continuous integration, delivery, and model training.
• Act as a liaison between business users, data engineers, and developers to build, implement, and integrate AI into services and products.
• Create and maintain technical and user documentation for models.
• Lead data analysis to support strategic decision making.
• Use data visualization and trend analysis to produce reports for leadership teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in quantitative fields such as Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related technical field.
• Three years or more of professional experience in a machine learning or AI engineering role.
• Two or more years of professional experience in data analysis.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Core ML libraries including TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, and XGBoost.
• Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with any cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their AI/ML services (Vertex AI, Azure ML, SageMaker).
• Strong communication skills for relating complex subject matter to senior management.
• Ability to manipulate large datasets and identify trends using BI tools.
• Ability to lead projects and coordinate developers with varying skill levels.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
• Problem-solving and analytical skills to diagnose unpredictable model behaviors, break down complex data challenges, and optimize system-level tradeoffs.
• Verbal and written communication skills that connect technical data to business strategy through jargon-free explanations and data storytelling that highlights trends and metric importance.
