Job Description
The Applications Engineer will serve as a technical and commercial partner supporting Medbio’s growth through RFQ discovery, quotation development, and the handoff to project teams.
Responsibilities
- Maintain working knowledge of Medbio manufacturing capabilities, including site-specific equipment, tooling, materials, secondary operations, assembly, quality systems, and medical manufacturing requirements.
- Partner with Sales and customers during RFQ discovery to clarify drawings, specifications, volumes, demand profiles, quality and regulatory requirements, packaging, timelines, and commercial assumptions; identify missing information before quotation.
- Evaluate technical feasibility and manufacturing approach, including resin selection, tooling concept, cavitation, equipment fit, cycle-time assumptions, process risks, labor, capacity, and outside services; coordinate technical reviews as needed.
- Build and maintain cost models and quotations for molded components and assemblies, including material usage, press time, labor, overhead, tooling, NRE, engineering, metrology, and validation activities.
- Use approved costing methodologies, pricing guidance, and margin expectations; assess gross margin and contribution margin when cost data are available, and escalate exceptions, assumptions, and commercial risks for review.
- Coordinate inputs from tooling, engineering, quality, and operations for scopes of work, feasibility reviews, DFM feedback, validation requirements, and realistic project schedules.
- Prepare complete customer quote packages and quote letters with clear documentation of pricing tiers, capital/tooling assumptions, customer-owned assets, exclusions, lead times, and commercial terms in partnership with Sales.
- Keep opportunity, quote, revision, and supporting-file records current and accurate in designated CRM, quoting/ERP, and shared document systems; follow intake and quotation controls.
- Proactively communicate quotation status, technical constraints, and changes in scope or assumptions to internal stakeholders and customers; prioritize against agreed commitments.
- Support transition of awarded programs to project engineering and operations with documented quoted assumptions, cost drivers, technical risks, deliverables, and customer commitments.
- Participate in customer technical discussions, site visits, and industry events as appropriate; represent Medbio’s capabilities and recommend practical manufacturing solutions.
- Use quote outcomes, quote-to-actual feedback, and workflow observations to improve estimating accuracy, turnaround time, standardization, and NRE capture.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering, applications engineering, technical sales, estimating, or related manufacturing work; medical device manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to review CAD models and engineering drawings, interpret dimensions and tolerances, and understand polymer materials and injection molding processes; resin selection experience is beneficial.
- Knowledge of manufacturing cost drivers, technical quotation development, tooling concepts, and commercial margin principles; experience with medical manufacturing validation and quality requirements preferred.
- Proficiency with Excel and comfort learning CRM and ERP/quoting plus shared document systems; attention to data accuracy and version control.
- Strong written and verbal communication, analytical judgment, customer-facing professionalism, and ability to manage multiple priorities with cross-functional inputs.
