Applied AI Engineer, Beneficial Deployments (Life Sciences)
Job Description
The Applied AI Engineer role within Anthropic’s Beneficial Deployments team focuses on increasing Claude’s impact across life sciences. You will collaborate with leading research institutions to deliver production systems, agent prototypes, and shared infrastructure that supports scientific workflows.
Role Focus
This position is centered on accelerating scientific progress from R&D through translation by an order of magnitude. Work is embedded directly within partner teams, with a goal of helping research teams use Claude in their day-to-day scientific processes. The Applied AI team is part of the founding effort to bring life sciences closer to the frontier.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with flagship life sciences research institutions by understanding their scientific workflows end-to-end, collaborating hands-on with their engineering teams, and moving projects from early exploration into production systems integrated into routine research.
- Build reusable ecosystem infrastructure, including MCP servers for domain-specific data sources such as genomics platforms, literature databases, and experimental repositories, as well as instruments, scientifically grounded benchmarks, and agent skills that other institutions can adopt without starting from scratch.
- Assess what is genuinely difficult about deploying AI in life sciences, including heterogeneous data, auditability requirements, and the prototype-to-trust gap, and communicate those findings back to product, engineering, and research teams.
- Create technical content and documentation that enables partners to self-serve, supporting global scaling of what works for one institution without requiring the same level of hand-holding.
Requirements
- Deep research experience in life sciences, biomedical research, or scientific computing.
- Bonus: study experience in genomics, neuroscience, or drug discovery, with comfort working at a detailed technical level with academic collaborators.
- Experience building LLM-powered tools or applications, including prompting, context engineering, agent architectures, and evaluation frameworks.
- Builder credibility demonstrated through shipping production code as a software engineer, forward-deployed engineer, or technical founder.
- A scrappy mindset, including comfort operating across multiple responsibilities, building from scratch, driving clarity in ambiguous situations, and taking whatever steps are needed to advance the mission.
Technologies
- Claude
- LLM-powered tools
- MCP servers
