Job Description

Deloitte's onsite Chicago, IL Applied AI Engineer I role offers a salary range of USD 84,300 to 155,400 per year and focuses on embedding GenAI and agentic capabilities into full-stack products.

Responsibilities

  • Outcome-Driven Accountability: Develop engineering solutions defined by meaningful customer and business outcomes while managing costs, owning inference, token usage, and cloud expenses; design lean, high-quality implementations.
  • Technical Leadership and Advocacy: Serve as the technical advocate for products, ensuring code integrity, feasibility, and alignment with business and customer goals; participate in requirements analysis, component design, development, testing, integrations, and support.
  • Engineering Craftsmanship: Maintain code-design integrity and adherence to architecture and tech stack; ensure quality, data integrity, and ongoing maintenance; be hands-on, self-driven, and continually learn new approaches and frameworks; create technical specifications and deliver scalable, maintainable code meeting quality KPIs.
  • Customer-Centric Engineering: Build lean solutions through rapid, inexpensive experiments to address customer needs; engage with customers and product teams before, during, and after delivery to ensure timely, right-fit solutions.
  • Incremental and Iterative Delivery: Favor action and evidence over extensive planning; navigate complexity with a lean-forward approach to deliver maintainable and right-sized solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Integration: Collaborate with product management, experience, and delivery teams; integrate diverse perspectives to balance feasibility, viability, usability, and value; foster a collaborative environment that enhances innovation.
  • Advanced Technical Proficiency: Develop expertise in modern software engineering practices, including AI and Agentic SSDLC, enabling daily deployments with full automation from discovery to production and operations, with all quality checks through the SSDLC lifecycle.
  • Domain Expertise: Quickly acquire domain knowledge relevant to the business or product; translate business and user needs into technical specifications and code; be a flexible, quality-focused team member who supports teammates and reduces tech debt.
  • Effective Communication and Influence: Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively; influence teammates and product teams with evidence-based trade-offs and coherent narratives that align with business objectives.
  • Engagement and Collaborative Co-Creation: Collaborate with product engineering teams at all levels and with customers as needed; build constructive relationships and foster a culture of co-creation to reach product goals.

Requirements
