Applied AI Engineer II
Job Description
Deloitte is hiring an Applied AI Engineer II in Hermitage, TN for an onsite role. In this position, you will build and improve high-visibility full-stack products by embedding GenAI and agentic capabilities across the delivery lifecycle, with a strong focus on outcome-driven engineering and cloud cost-aware development.
This role combines technical leadership, hands-on implementation, and cross-functional execution, including requirement analysis, component design, testing, integrations, and ongoing support. You will own key aspects of what you ship, including inference, token, and cloud costs, while ensuring code integrity and alignment with business and customer goals.
Responsibilities
- Drive a culture of accountability for both customer and business outcomes, and the cost of achieving them.
- Develop engineering solutions for complex problems, using lean designs and implementations, and maintain ownership of inference, token, and cloud cost for the work you build.
- Act as a technical advocate for products, supporting code integrity, feasibility, and alignment with business and customer goals.
- Participate in requirement analysis, component design, development, testing, integrations, and support.
- Maintain accountability for code design integrity, implementation fidelity to the architecture and tech stack, quality, data, and ongoing maintenance and operations.
- Be hands-on, self-driven, and continuously learn new approaches, languages, and frameworks.
- Create technical specifications and write high-quality, supportable, scalable code while meeting or exceeding relevant quality KPIs.
- Use rapid, inexpensive experimentation to develop lean solutions that address customer needs.
- Engage with customers and product teams before, during, and after delivery to help ensure the right solution is delivered at the right time.
- Work with empowered, cross-functional teams including product management, experience, and delivery.
- Balance feasibility, viability, usability, and value by integrating diverse perspectives and building consensus.
- Apply modern software engineering practices to enable daily product deployments using full automation from discovery to production to operations with quality checks across the SSDLC lifecycle.
- Translate business and user needs, architectures, and UX/UI designs into technical specifications and code.
- Demonstrate strong communication and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts and trade-offs with evidence.
- Support technical debt payoff, collaborate effectively, and help create coherent narratives connecting technical solutions to business objectives.
- Learn quickly and build domain-specific knowledge relevant to the business or product.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, machine learning, or a related discipline (experience is the most relevant factor).
- 3+ years of experience with many of the following: Angular, React, NodeJS, Python, C#, .NET, Java, SQL/NoSQL, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, LangGraph, and unit testing frameworks.
- 2+ years building AI/ML and agentic applications, including hands-on GenAI work across LLM integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models), RAG pipelines, prompt engineering, vector databases, evaluations, and AI agent orchestration.
- 2+ years of cloud-native engineering experience using FaaS, PaaS, or micro-services on Azure, AWS, or GCP, including AI/ML services such as Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, or Vertex AI, plus application-level infrastructure-as-code and cost-aware engineering (FinOps accountability).
- Prior software engineering experience with concepts including Business Context Diagrams (BCD), sequence/activity/state/entity relationship/data flow diagrams, OOP/OOD, data structures, algorithms, and AI-augmented spec-driven development.
- Experience with methodologies and tools such as XP, Lean, DevSecOps, SRE, ADO, GitHub, SonarQube, MLflow, and agentic AI frameworks (for example, LangFuse, LangSmith or equivalent multi-agent orchestration tools) to deliver high-quality products rapidly.
- Must be located within commutable distance to one of the select locations for this role.
