Assistant Engineer

In Paradise, California, the Assistant Engineer role at Paradise Irrigation District blends hands-on engineering with project oversight to support the planning, design, and construction of the district’s facilities and infrastructure. Responsibilities

• Under the general guidance of the District Engineer, perform technical tasks across planning, design, and construction of district structures; coordinate projects; serve as the district inspector on construction sites; and perform related duties as needed.
• Create designs, specifications, and cost estimates for the construction and development of district pipelines and other facilities.
• Prepare engineering studies and reports addressing water service issues.
• Draft district maps and pipeline drawings by hand when required; apply CAD and GIS skills to project work.
• Assist staff with analysis and refinement of field data.
• Develop material and quantity estimates for plans, profiles, maps, and drawings used in construction projects.
• Conduct hydraulic modeling of the district distribution system, evaluate the impact of proposed changes, and update or calibrate the model as needed.
• Assemble material lists required for construction.
• Assist contractors and the public with questions regarding water pressure and water quality.
• Represent the District in coordination with utilities, regulatory agencies, governmental bodies, planning agencies, trade and professional associations, technical groups, and developers.
• Perform basic horizontal and vertical surveys for district projects.
• Prepare correspondence related to engineering functions.
• Collect basic survey control data on dams and compile dam-related data for submissions to the Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD).
• Communicate effectively with District management, coworkers, and the public in face-to-face, one-to-one, and group settings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications may be met through any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Three years of progressively responsible technical engineering experience in the design and construction of pipelines, pumping facilities, and distribution systems, along with possession of an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
