Job Description

Work onsite in Washington, PA and help Ensinger, Inc. move manufacturing forward with control solutions built for dynamic systems and Industry 4.0 readiness. In this Automation Controls Engineer role, you will design and implement PLC-based control, safety-focused assessments, and building automation improvements that support stable operations, productivity, and quality.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and implement solutions that control dynamic manufacturing systems to deliver the desired outcomes safely.
  • Bring stability to constantly changing processes so production remains controlled and reliable.
  • Build holistic automation approaches that inter-connect manufacturing equipment to advance operations toward Industry 4.0.
  • Support automation improvements, equipment technology upgrades, and technical support using PLC programming, advanced motor control solutions, and SCADA systems.
  • Partner with Quality, Process Engineering, and Operations to confirm equipment is meeting expectations and producing required results.
  • Address process control issues by developing control solutions that improve outcomes.
  • Analyze equipment and recommend changes aimed at performance improvements and cost reduction.
  • Define project requirements by preparing project specifications, cost estimates, and justification.
  • Create equipment drawings and documentation, then supervise implementation.
  • Develop and document new PLC control systems from concept through qualification, including maintaining configuration control of current PLC source code.
  • Support training for new installations and contribute to standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and promote safe work practices with zero tolerance for non-compliance to safety procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Manage building automation systems to improve facility efficiencies and control.
  • Maintain a maintenance database ensuring assets are documented with complete PM programs.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent) and 3 years of applicable experience.
  • Proven manufacturing operations experience improving performance with emphasis on safety, productivity, quality, cost, and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced PLC and HMI programming experience with networked communications including Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus DP, Profinet, and OPC/UA.
  • Experience with VFD and servo motor drive platforms, plus SCADA-based communications experience (a plus).
  • Skilled with 2D and 3D CAD software and able to develop both mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Self-motivated approach with willingness to work both in the office environment and hands on in the plant.
