Avionics Engineer - Batteries (All levels)

Job Description

Impulse Space is building the next generation of space vehicles, and this role supports battery development in a fast-paced, high reliability environment. You will help develop new lithium-ion battery packs and contribute from early concept work through full rate production, with strong cross-functional collaboration across spacecraft development.

This on-site position is based in Redondo Beach, CA, with a salary range of USD 130,000 to 165,000 per year. Impulse Space also offers long-term incentives via stock options, medical, vision, and dental coverage, and access to a 401(k) retirement plan.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new lithium-ion battery packs to meet mission requirements
  • Own the full product lifecycle for the battery pack
  • Interface with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and test teams
  • Create electrical, structural, and thermal models to support design and delivery

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Years of professional experience in battery development
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery qualification and safety standards, including UN 38.3
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting electronics
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale, and/or resolve concerns

Preferred skills and experience

  • Master’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Experience qualifying spacecraft products
  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter
  • Experience with Simcenter or ANSYS
  • Experience with Altium Designer
  • Experience designing harsh environment power electronics
  • Experience designing electromechanical assemblies

  • Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data.
  • Individual level and base pay are determined case-by-case and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities, and internal equity.
  • Impulse Space’s spacecraft manufacturing business is subject to U.S. export regulations, including ITAR and EAR.
  • Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license from the U.S. Departments of State, Commerce, or other applicable U.S. government agencies.
