Job Description
VeeRteq Solutions Inc. is seeking a Senior Azure Data Engineer to design, optimize, and deliver scalable cloud-based data solutions that support analytics and enterprise data platforms. This hybrid role is based in Chicago, IL, with 3 days per week in the office, and requires relocation to Chicago from day 1.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain complex SQL Server and Azure SQL databases.
- Build and optimize advanced T-SQL solutions, including stored procedures, functions, and views.
- Conduct query tuning, develop indexing strategies, and improve performance for large-scale datasets.
- Apply best practices for database security, data integrity, and reliability.
- Develop and manage data solutions in Azure SQL Database.
- Work with Databricks and Apache Spark to support data transformations, analytics, and large-scale processing.
- Integrate Azure SQL with Databricks using Delta Lake, Spark SQL, and PySpark/SQL where applicable.
- Support cloud-based data architectures and hybrid data environments.
- Design and maintain relational and dimensional data models.
- Implement Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD) and other data warehousing patterns.
- Support ETL/ELT processes and coordinate with data engineering teams.
- Collaborate with application developers, data engineers, BI teams, and stakeholders to understand data requirements.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior developers and participate in code reviews.
- Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience as a Database Developer or in a similar role.
- Strong expertise in SQL Server and Azure SQL.
- Advanced proficiency in T-SQL, including performance tuning and query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling, and SCD.
- Experience working in Azure cloud environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Education and Certifications

This position is located in Chicago, IL (Hybrid) with 3 days work from the office. Client interviews can occur virtually; the candidate must relocate to Chicago, IL from day 1.
