Job Description
The Business Intelligence and SQL Data Engineer role at American Pain Consortium is an onsite position based in Carmel, Indiana. It combines strategic leadership with hands-on expertise to support Power BI reporting, SQL Server infrastructure, and the enterprise data warehouse, delivering reliable executive reporting across clinical, operational, and financial domains.
Job Summary
In this role, you will provide both strategic direction and practical technical execution for the organization’s Power BI environment, SQL Server backbone, and enterprise data warehouse. You will design scalable data architectures, ensure SQL Server performance and reliability, and serve as the subject matter expert on data modeling, semantic layers, and SQL optimization. You will collaborate closely with Finance, Operations, IT, and executive leadership to enable consistent and accurate reporting across clinical, operational, and financial areas.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain enterprise Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Plan, implement, and optimize SQL Server databases.
- Develop complex T-SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and ETL processes.
- Build and sustain dimensional models, including star schemas and Bronze/Silver/Gold data layers.
- Monitor and tune indexing strategies, execution plans, and overall query performance.
- Support data integration and alignment across multiple EMR, scheduling, and billing systems.
- Ensure backup integrity, disaster recovery readiness, and continuous data availability.
- Assist with data migrations and data acquisitions during integrations.
- Establish naming conventions, documentation standards, and change governance.
- Maintain data integrity through validation and reconciliation processes.
- Monitor data quality and promptly address discrepancies.
- Partner with leadership to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
- Maintain SQL Server virtual machines in coordination with IT infrastructure.
- Support capacity planning, storage growth forecasting, and patch coordination.
- Collaborate with the CIO and executive leadership on analytics strategy.
- Develop standardized dashboards to support operational and financial reporting needs.
- Build and manage semantic models and DAX measures.
- Optimize report performance and ensure reliable data refreshes.
- Maintain Power BI gateways, authentication, and scheduled refresh processes.
- Partner with Finance and Operations to deliver AR, revenue cycle, KPI, and acquisition reporting.
- Support self-service reporting initiatives and enforce data governance standards.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field preferred.
- 3–7+ years experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Strong T-SQL experience including joins, CTEs, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
- 3+ years experience with Microsoft Power BI (DAX, semantic models, dataflows).
- Experience designing star schemas or dimensional models.
- Experience supporting production SQL environments.
- Healthcare or financial reporting experience preferred.
