Case Pre-Production Engineer
Job Description
In this onsite role, Gaithersburg Architectural Millwork needs a Case Pre-Production Engineer to translate approved architectural documentation into production-ready CNC and manufacturing data. Working as the key bridge between engineering and the shop floor, you will ensure casework is built efficiently and to specification, with accurate models, labels, cut lists, and reports released in step with the production schedule.
Role Summary
The Casework Pre-Production Engineer converts approved shop drawings into precise, machine-ready production information. This includes creating Cabinet Vision models, generating cut lists and bills of material, producing CNC programs and labels, and preparing parts reports that manufacturing teams can use without rework.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret architectural documents and shop drawings; identify errors, omissions, and conflicts.
- Build cabinet and casework models in Cabinet Vision using approved shop drawings, elevations, and field dimensions.
- Generate cut lists, bills of material, panel optimizations, part labels, and assembly reports for each released job.
- Post CNC output using Screen-to-Machine (S2M Center), verifying toolpaths, machining setup, and part orientation before release.
- Coordinate with the Custom Pre-Production team for parts requiring programming outside Cabinet Vision.
- Develop and maintain library objects, standard construction methods, and databases for materials, hardware, and machining standards.
- Keep the library aligned with shop practice, including joinery, edgebanding, shelf-pin and hardware boring, and drawer box construction.
- Recommend value-engineering alternatives in materials, hardware, and construction methods, including clear trade-offs for project management and design.
- Document standards and workflows so other engineers can work consistently.
- Check models against approved drawings, specifications, and change orders before release; route conflicts to drafting or project management.
- Release work in phases aligned to the production schedule and update the job tracker as releases go out.
- Troubleshoot issues such as machining errors, mislabeled parts, or miscut components with the shop floor and correct root causes in the library.
- Manage time and priorities across multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
