Construction Engineer

Electri Tech Services, Inc. is hiring a Construction Engineer (BESS / Renewable Energy) for an onsite contract role in Otay Mesa, CA. This is a field-based position where you will act as a technical site authority, helping ensure BESS construction is executed with strong engineering oversight, dependable quality control, and clear documentation from installation through commissioning and closeout.

What you’ll do

• Serve as the primary on-site technical resource for BESS, electrical, civil, and high-voltage substation construction activities.
• Complete daily site inspections and constructability reviews to confirm field execution follows approved Issued-for-Construction (IFC) drawings, engineering standards, and utility interconnection requirements.
• Identify, evaluate, and resolve field engineering issues, RFIs, design conflicts, and non-conformance items onsite, coordinating with external Engineers of Record (EOR) and internal engineering teams.
• Lead and implement field QA/QC inspection programs, including witnessing critical testing, managing inspection hold points, verifying equipment alignments, and confirming field installations.
• Perform technical receiving inspections for BESS containers, inverters, transformers, and switchgear upon arrival to verify conformance with technical specifications and storage requirements.
• Support site testing, energization, pre-commissioning, and final commissioning activities, while tracking and resolving field punch-list items.
• Strengthen on-site safety by enforcing compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, local electrical codes including NEC, and company safety guidelines during daily engineering tasks.
• Maintain accurate field logs, redline / as-built drawings, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and technical site documentation; support evaluation of technical scope changes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Construction Engineering (or equivalent technical field experience) required.
• 3 to 5 years of field construction engineering experience on utility-scale renewable energy, BESS, high-voltage substation, or electrical power projects.
• Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong understanding of single-line diagrams (SLDs), schematic drawings, NFPA 70E, NEC, and grid interconnection requirements.
• OSHA 10 (or 30) and NFPA 70E certification required (training may be provided for qualified candidates); EIT or PE track preferred.

Work setup

Onsite at active construction project sites in Otay Mesa, CA. Expect prolonged time outdoors, field inspections, and hands-on site coordination.

Compensation and role details

Salary: USD 100,000 - 120,000 per year. Job type: contract. Experience level: minimum 3 years.
