Controls Engineer
Job Description
Join Dragonfly Energy Corp as a Controls Engineer in Reno, NV onsite. The position focuses on applying engineering principles to troubleshoot and optimize complex automation systems, spanning machine design, PLC/HMI programming, testing, documentation, cross-functional collaboration, and electrical design.
Responsibilities
- Machine design: perform basic sizing calculations and specify field equipment (motors, valves, cameras, lasers, etc.) based on quality and production metrics.
- Automation and controls: program and configure PLCs, HMIs, and other control devices; troubleshoot and adjust PLC and HMI programs; assist with hardware and process issues.
- Testing: develop detailed test plans and conduct validation according to design specifications while maintaining safety standards.
- Documentation: record each step of the design process following Dragonfly’s standard engineering workflow.
- Collaboration: work with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and define system specifications; partner with engineering and manufacturing to integrate new control features and optimize performance.
- Electrical design: update electrical drawings as needed for improvements to existing equipment or create schematics for prototyping new equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in automation engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related STEM field.
- Experience with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work clearly and effectively with team members.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.

Physical requirements and work environment
