Job Description

DEXTER TECHNOLOGIES INC is hiring a Data Analytics Engineer in Houston, TX (hybrid). This role connects data engineering practices with business intelligence delivery, focusing on Azure SQL development, Power BI semantic modeling, and operational monitoring of scheduled data refreshes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain SQL views, staging tables, and fact/dimension models in an Azure SQL data warehouse, including deduplication and business-rule logic such as status-based routing and multi-source reconciliation.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI semantic models, including relationships, DAX measures, and security roles, along with the reports and dashboards supported by those models for business stakeholders and company-wide reporting.
  • Share monitoring responsibility with the Sr. Manager, Data & Analytics for scheduled Azure Data Factory pipeline runs and Power BI dataset refreshes, including responding to failures and performing first-line troubleshooting.
  • Make minor updates to existing pipelines to support new or changing business requirements as familiarity with the tooling grows.
  • Work with business SMEs to translate reporting requests and business logic (for example, commission structures, revenue recognition, and inventory rules) into accurate, documented data models.
  • Write and maintain documentation for data models, metric definitions, and report logic to clarify data lineage and ownership beyond individual contributors.
  • Help evolve team standards for naming conventions, DAX style, and semantic model design as team practices mature.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, optimize existing data workflows, and incorporate new technologies or tools to improve data analytics capabilities.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in a data-focused role (analytics engineer, BI developer, data analyst, or similar) with hands-on SQL work, including comfort with CTEs, window functions, and complex multi-source views.
  • Solid Power BI experience beyond report formatting, including building semantic models from scratch and authoring DAX involving CALCULATE, filter context, and context transition.
  • Dimensional modeling fundamentals, including star schemas and slowly changing dimensions.
  • A proven ability to partner with business stakeholders to convert ambiguous requirements or business rules into a working data model.
