Data Engineer
Job Description
Data Engineer role at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in Darien, IL (hybrid) focusing on building scalable data pipelines and analytics-ready datasets.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data into a centralized data warehouse.
- Incorporate data from APIs and SaaS platforms, building automated ingestion workflows with proper controls such as authentication, pagination, rate limiting, and incremental loads.
- Design and optimize ELT processes in SQL Server to deliver strong performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Develop and sustain data models using star and snowflake schemas to enable robust reporting and analytics.
- Work with business and technical stakeholders to convert requirements into effective data solutions.
- Ensure data quality and consistency by implementing automated validation checks and resolving pipeline issues promptly.
- Document data systems and processes, support governance standards, enable BI integration ( Power BI ), and promote self‑service analytics.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of three years in data engineering or ELT development
- Strong SQL Server capabilities for ELT and data transformation, with experience in BI tools (Power BI) and data warehouse best practices
- Expertise in data modeling (star and snowflake) and data architectures, including data lakes and lakehouse environments
- Proven ability to design, optimize, and scale data pipelines for performance and reliability
- Proficiency in Python (or similar) for data manipulation and automation, plus knowledge of API standards (REST, OAuth) for secure integrations
- Experience implementing automated data pipeline testing, including validation, quality checks, and regression testing
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with technical and business stakeholders

Compensation
Salary: $100,000 – $110,000 per year
