Job Description
Marriott International is expanding its data and analytics tech group to design and build a next-generation cloud platform for data, analytics, AI, and machine learning. The Senior Data Engineer / Lead Software Engineer will serve as a technical authority on the Data Platform team, establishing standards and constructing reusable frameworks that enable scalable data capabilities. This role is based in Bethesda, MD with remote work options and a salary range of USD 100,400 to 198,900 per year.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of the next generation cloud data platform, enabling data, analytics, AI and machine learning capabilities.
- Engage in research, analysis, and end-to-end design and development across a spectrum of new data capabilities and products.
- Establish technical standards and craft reusable frameworks to enable consistent, scalable data capabilities and products.
- Take technical ownership of Service Provider deliverables, guiding their technical resources to deliver high-quality work that adheres to standards and scales.
- Explore emerging AI technologies to unlock future capabilities and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Make decisions on complex, non-routine requests to support analytics-driven decisioning for Marriott business teams.
Requirements
- More than eight years of hands-on experience building large-scale data ETL pipelines and applications at enterprise scale.
- At least two years in technical delivery ownership for large-scale data pipelines and applications on AWS cloud technologies and the Snowflake data platform.
- Proven technical leadership with the ability to guide Service Provider technical resources.
- Strong communication skills.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field.

Candidate Profile
- 8+ years of hands-on experience developing large-scale data ETL pipelines and applications at enterprise scale.
- 2+ years of experience in technical delivery ownership for large-scale data pipelines and applications on AWS cloud technologies and the Snowflake data platform.
- Strong technical leader with proven ability to guide Service Provider technical resources.
- Strong communication skills.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related Engineering; graduate degree preferred.
- Technology certifications in Snowflake or AWS.
- Experience with Airflow, Python, and API calls.
- Experience with data governance, privacy, and data quality techniques.
- Experience in agile software methodologies.
Core Work Activities
- Technical Leadership: Train and mentor team members and peers as appropriate; coordinate across multiple teams to drive projects from inception to delivery; identify opportunities to improve service delivery processes.
- Delivering Technology: Conduct complex quantitative and qualitative analyses for service delivery processes and projects; support fulfillment of service providers' deliverables; ensure requirements are complete before engaging service providers.
- IT Governance: Adhere to IT standards and processes and contribute improvements; balance business and operational risk; escalate risks appropriately; follow project management standards and processes.
- Service Provider Management: Verify that service providers manage their project plan components, including schedules, deliverables, and metrics; plan short term resource utilization; monitor provider outcomes; review work effort estimates for accuracy; facilitate timely resolution of delivery issues to minimize client impact.
