Electrical Controls Engineer
Job Description
Electrical Controls Engineer role focused on designing and implementing machine control systems, collaborating with hardware and mechanical teams, and aligning with client process software needs, with travel as required.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with hardware and mechanical design teams to develop effective programming solutions
- Own the overall design quality, including programs, machine interfaces, and key deliverables
- Contribute to the project execution plan, requirements, and design risk assessments
- Review designs for accuracy, thoroughness, and alignment with the defined scope
- Define and implement control requirements for new and existing systems
- Engage with clients to clearly understand process software needs
- Participate in design reviews and prepare review materials
- Communicate with customers to resolve open items or technical questions
- Attend and contribute to technical meetings as outlined in the execution plan
- Travel domestically and internationally for field audits, commissioning, troubleshooting, construction, installation, and startup support
- Assist software design in project preparation, including schedules, scope, execution plans, staffing, requirements, and risks
- Support assignments involving a major project or multiple smaller projects
- Maintain liaison with customers and translate their requirements into software specifications
- Monitor progress, evaluate results, and adjust methods, design, or equipment as needed
- Ensure ongoing quality of the overall design, programs, and machine interfaces until delivery to the customer
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field from an accredited institution
- Minimum 10 years of design/engineering experience
- Practical knowledge of analog and digital servo control
- Experience with industrial machine hardware design is preferred
- Understanding of industrial control systems applications for machine systems, including instrumentation and data acquisition for improvement
- Ability to write, modify, and troubleshoot PLC (including motion control) and HMI programs; Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms preferred
- Software development experience for dynamic control applications is desired
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
