Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Electrical Engineer in Hy-Vee's Engineering department focuses on designing and managing electrical systems for new stores and remodels, developing standards, and coordinating with stores, subsidiaries, and outside consultants.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Store Development team to plan and deliver new stores and remodels.
- Create electrical drawings for retail projects, including large and small format grocery stores, restaurants, convenience stores, car washes, and related initiatives, plus work for subsidiary companies.
- Support the architectural and interior design teams during concept development.
- Provide peer review of electrical drawings produced by design consultants.
- Establish and maintain electrical design standards and specifications, including Revit standards.
- Oversee facility electrical improvements, including assessments, design recommendations, contractor selection, and construction administration as appropriate.
- Develop and implement electrical commissioning processes.
- Create standards to improve energy efficiency and integrate renewable energy systems.
- Assist stores and subsidiaries in complying with applicable codes and jurisdiction requirements.
- Conduct site visits for construction observation.
- Provide field clarifications to the construction project manager and contractors.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to assess constructability and support value engineering analysis.
- Establish and sustain vendor partnerships.
- Perform other duties and special projects as needed.
- Attend company and departmental meetings.
Requirements
- Solid understanding of building materials, construction methods, and building systems.
- Familiarity with model electrical codes and the ability to interpret and apply codes across various building types and uses.
- Proven ability to manage multiple project teams, budgets, and schedules concurrently.
- Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD; proficient with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office.
- Collaborative, with strong communication and teamwork skills.

- Four-year degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- Minimum of four years of experience under a licensed engineer.
- Must hold a Professional Engineer license or be eligible to obtain one within Hy-Vee's nine-state trade area.
