Job Description

Join a team engineering mission-critical power solutions at Vertiv’s onsite facility in Anderson, SC. In this Electrical Design Engineer role, you’ll help design low voltage switchgear and electrical controls that support reliable infrastructure. The work is hands-on and cross-functional, partnering with mechanical, automation, manufacturing, and project management to keep multiple projects moving on schedule.

You will contribute to electrical system development from early documentation through production support and final project closeout. The role also emphasizes technical rigor and quality through compliance with relevant electrical codes and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical systems, components, and products for power distribution equipment.
  • Review initial project documentation and electrical requirements at the start of each project.
  • Support product development from concept through production under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Prepare electrical schematics, single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and communications network drawings in accordance with customer drawing packages and specifications.
  • Perform circuit analysis and calculations to support design decisions.
  • Prepare and finalize electrical bills of materials.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and cross-functional reviews with the mechanical design team.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, automation, and manufacturing engineering teams, along with project management, to resolve issues and meet project timelines across concurrent projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes and industry standards, including NEC, UL, ANSI, and IEEE, throughout the design process.
  • Assist manufacturing and assembly teams in resolving design-related issues during production.
  • Develop control wiring for automatic transfer controllers, breaker interlocking, PLC equipment, and power quality monitoring systems.
  • Support testing procedures for electrical systems, including creating test scripts to validate control scheme functionality.
  • Write technical documentation and specifications, including project closeout documentation and as-built records, at project completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1–3 years of experience (minimum 1 year).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated application to electrical control design.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, UL, ANSI, and IEEE standards to ensure design compliance.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned projects while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects while maintaining the latest revisions of design drawings.
  • Adaptability to respond to a fast-moving business environment.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive and flexible approach to working within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of low voltage switchgear and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, SEE Electrical, EPLAN, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standards, including but not limited to UL 1558, UL 891, UL 489, and UL 1066.
