Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Work on practical electrical engineering deliverables tied to water and wastewater systems, with a hybrid role based in Phoenix, AZ. This position supports end-to-end project work, from design development and studies to construction support and commissioning. If you value structured engineering work and clear documentation, this role pairs technical depth with collaboration across design and field delivery. Salary range is USD 150,000 - 180,000 per year.
What you’ll do
As an Electrical Engineer (PE), you will design and develop Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (EI&C) contract drawings for power and electrical infrastructure projects. You will also run and interpret electrical studies and assist through construction and commissioning.
- Design low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems, including power plans, lighting plans, panel schedules, control schematics, and installation details.
- Complete electrical engineering calculations such as load summaries, breaker sizing, conduit and wire sizing, voltage drop, and fault current.
- Develop EI&C contract drawing packages using AutoCAD.
- Lead, review, and interpret power system and arc flash studies.
- Support construction by reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, performing field inspections, and participating in start-up and commissioning.
What you bring
- Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required, preferably in Arizona.
- Minimum 3 years of electrical and industrial controls engineering experience in the water/wastewater industry.
- Minimum 3 years producing EI&C contract drawing packages in AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in designing low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems and in electrical engineering calculations.
- Working proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
- Thorough understanding of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and NFPA 70E.
- Thorough knowledge of NFPA 101 and NFPA 820.
- Experience with shop drawing review, RFIs, field inspection, start-up, and commissioning.
- Experience leading, reviewing, and interpreting power system and arc flash studies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently on small to medium electrical and control system design projects and collaborate in a team environment.
Preferred experience
- Ability to read and understand P&IDs and control descriptions.
- Experience modeling electrical power distribution systems with SKM software.
