Job Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer role at Audubon Companies in Lake Charles, LA (onsite) involves electrical engineering assignments related to designing equipment, components, structures or systems.
Responsibilities
- Independently develop intermediate to advanced specifications for project work, detailing client performance criteria, component needs, design requirements, applicable codes, and vendor drawing requirements.
- Create engineering sketches, perform calculations, and build analysis models for complex projects.
- Review and approve vendor drawings to ensure alignment with project specifications.
- Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other consultants.
- Set realistic project expectations and ensure work is completed on schedule and within budget.
- Adhere to the company quality standards and follow established engineering checking and approval procedures.
- Comply with all HSSE standards and applicable federal and local health, safety, security, and environmental regulations.
- Actively participate in hazard identification and observation programs and promptly report any unsafe acts, conditions, or incidents to supervision.
- Collaborate with drafting and design teams to develop and review engineering drawings.
- Visit job sites to evaluate site conditions, project requirements, and constraints.
- Inspect equipment at vendor facilities to verify compliance with requirements and specifications.
- Prepare inquiries and purchase requisitions and conduct bid tabulations for equipment acquisitions.
- Check engineering drawings and perform mathematical calculations as part of quality control.
- Apply safe design practices while seeking opportunities for cost reduction.
- Plan and manage workload, budgets, and project resources, seeking assistance as needed.
- Develop, review, and approve conceptual and detailed engineering design packages.
- Assist in creating internal design guidelines, specifications, and design control procedures.
- Assess project feasibility by evaluating materials, costs, and time requirements using engineering and advanced mathematics principles.
- Perform and oversee complex and repetitive calculations as needed.
- Prepare or direct the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, and construction schedules for projects.
- Evaluate different strategies and equations to ensure appropriate procedures are applied.
- Resolve design and development issues and drive solutions to completion.
- Manage client relationships and pursue opportunities for repeat business.
- Compile discipline-specific man-hour estimates and Total Installed Cost estimates based on client project scope.
- Forecast man-hour requirements and schedules for the discipline-specific scope of work.
- Lead medium to large multi-discipline projects when appropriate, coordinating day-to-day workflow and delegating tasks as needed.
- Provide feedback to supervisors regarding team performance and work-related issues, including potential disciplinary matters.
- Offer guidance on best practices and technical methods to colleagues.
- Serve as Engineer in Responsible Charge as assigned, adhering to PE sealing requirements for applicable projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
- ABET-accredited program is preferred.
- Electrical Engineering degree is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
- Field experience is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience is preferred.
- Experience leading medium to large multi-discipline projects is preferred.
- Experience with ETAP, SKM, and CARS is preferred.
- Working knowledge of electrical equipment design is preferred.
- Working knowledge of electrical design codes such as NEC, NEMA, API, and IEEE is preferred.
- Ability to make decisions and take actions to solve problems or achieve goals.
- Ability to proactively address work-related issues and find solutions.
- Ability to comprehend instructions and seek clarification as needed.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
