The Opportunity
Lead and deliver electrical distribution projects up to 34.5 kV from design through execution. Serve as a technical expert while guiding and mentoring junior engineers. Own project success by managing scope, budget, schedule, and quality across multi-discipline teams. Partner directly with clients to develop solutions, present designs, and drive outcomes. Play a key role in shaping project strategy, improving processes, and supporting business growth.

Key Responsibilities
- Produce engineering deliverables for multiple active projects
- Perform research to develop equipment and material recommendations
- Manage project data and execute complex engineering calculations
- Develop and oversee budgets, schedules, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines
- Command larger production teams, coordinate multi-discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for a project
- Apply knowledge consistently and independently in line with the Black & Veatch quality program
- Ensure compliance with the quality program while conducting internal QA technical reviews
- Mentor and guide others on the same project and discipline
- Support continuous improvement and change management efforts
- Interface directly with clients, vendors and subcontractors
- Identify key client interests and drivers for projects
- Relay client concerns to the project team and develop solutions
- Support business development or pursuit activities
- Manage project changes directly with the client under Project Manager supervision
- Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables
- Lead large multi-discipline teams to meet project deliverables
- Provide technical leadership for Distribution Line projects
- Drive solutions to achieve project goals
- Review lower-level engineering work or assignments
- Oversee data collection/assimilation and management, lead smaller production teams, or serve as the responsible charge for a project as applicable
- Manage work assignments and ensure quality from the project team
- Actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing engineering design services for overhead and underground distribution line projects for investor owned utilities in the United States
- Experience in design of overhead and underground distribution projects (4 kV to 34.5 kV)
- Good communication skills and interest in engaging with Clients to grow relationships
- Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and standards including NESC and NEC
- Working knowledge of interdisciplinary project coordination: procurement, subcontract administration, permitting, real estate and land acquisition, and construction support
- Working knowledge of the proposal process and developing engineering estimates
- P.E. License highly preferred
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements which may include background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws
Work Environment / Physical Demands
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days, based on manager discretion and performance
- Ability to use audio and video conferencing tools for internal and external communication
- Sitting, standing, and computer use for extended periods
- Travel to client sites as required
