Electronic Project Test Engineer

Johnson Health Tech North America Inc is seeking a hands-on Electronic Project Test Engineer to support New Product Development (NPD). This onsite role in Cottage Grove, WI focuses on identifying electronic failure and risk areas, establishing testing approaches, and partnering across engineering functions to verify solutions and support product safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed electronic and key component design review and analysis to identify potential failure modes and risk areas.
• Partner with hardware, system, mechanical, software, regulatory, and related engineering functions to perform failure and risk analysis.
• Develop and execute test plans to mitigate design and use risks.
• Apply expertise within the product safety review process.
• Use a thorough understanding of regulatory and internal test standards during review and verification activities.
• Review and analyze product specifications and support technical decisions.
• Support multiple projects through the NPD process, contributing to New Product Development phase gate deliverables and checklist completion to company standards.
• Maintain daily interaction with global development teams on design and testing activities.
• Develop electronic test standards and procedures.
• Design and build auto hardware, system and software test setups, and related equipment for evaluation work.
• Participate in product safety review processes as needed.
• Obtain and analyze field and user data to develop and execute test protocols for root cause work and to design and verify solutions.
• Develop electronic circuits, PCB, system diagrams, software, and electro-mechanical designs, including cost analysis, BOM generation, and BOM audits.
• Perform detailed design analysis using engineering electronics and methods such as FBD’s and FEA, fatigue analysis, and related techniques.
• Review circuits, PCB, system architecture designs, and test plans.
• Develop functional requirements and test plans to support product transition into mass production.
• Train Asia-based engineering and factory manufacturing teams on design and test requirements.

Required Qualifications

• BS in electronics engineering, or similar.
• Minimum of 8 years of electronic engineering experience.
• Well-qualified candidates will have engineering experience in fitness products with strong fitness market knowledge.
• Expertise in engineering electronics, system design, analysis, debugging, and validation.
• Experience with ESD and EMC/EMI requirements, plus power management and mitigation techniques.
• Experience with embedded system integration and best practices.
• Proficiency with circuit design and related areas including motor and driver systems, communication protocols, generators, battery charging, electro-mechanical control systems, and data acquisition, including developing tools or systems to proactively identify potential risks.
• Demonstrable experience designing components to ensure products meet safety standards through designing and executing tests to identify potential hazards and support reliable performance, including electrical, surge protection, ESD, EMC/EMI, edge case, reliability, and durability tests.
• Strong skills in FEA, DFMEA, and test plan development and execution.
• Thorough experience with schematics and PCB-related design analysis tools.
• Ability and willingness to travel internationally each quarter, with potential for additional travel depending on project demands.
• Ability and willingness to support communication and calls with overseas teams outside standard business hours.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with numerous diverse groups and individuals.
