Job Description

This hybrid Engineer role in the Power System Management department in Hicksville, NY involves managing the interconnection process of distributed energy resources to the LIPA distribution system under LIPA tariffs.

Responsibilities

  • Process Small Generator Interconnection Procedure applications through all project phases, including study, design, engineering, construction, commissioning, and commercial operation.
  • Coordinate with external developers and customers to ensure applications meet tariff requirements in coordination with internal departments.
  • Apply cradle to grave project management for Wholesale Power projects, from early application involvement through design review, construction, and project closeout.
  • Manage projects for Generating Resources (renewable and non renewable) connected to the LIPA distribution system.
  • Review utility single line drawings and manage multiple projects while delivering strong customer service.
  • Provide technical support to renewable and non renewable interconnection proposals for the LIPA distribution system.
  • Maintain awareness of NYISO interconnection processes and NYISO ICAP market rules.
  • Assist in operational management of existing interconnected resources on the distribution system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil) with 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, plus solid planning and organizational capabilities.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Knowledge of distribution and transmission system design, engineering practices, and construction methods.
  • Familiarity with the Long Island electric system.
  • Knowledge of NYISO market structure.
  • Knowledge of relaying and system protection.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word) and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to draft clear, precise documents outlining technical requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
  • Compliance with the Department of Energy regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.
