Engineer

Knife River seeks an Engineer to support engineering design, troubleshooting, and process improvement across operations and fixed facilities.

Responsibilities

• Set a positive safety example and help drive corporate and local safety initiatives.
• Understand working infrastructure and utilities tied to company properties and fixed facilities.
• Create, maintain, and report reserve inventory annually to support SEC 10(k) reporting for Knife River.
• Apply knowledge of surveying procedures, drilling techniques, mapping, drafting, aggregate exploration, and reserve analysis.
• Use engineering software to develop and prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings and reports.
• Provide engineering assistance, technical support, and troubleshooting for field issues across the Company’s Divisions.
• Support the Senior Engineering Manager on company capital investment projects.
• Assist with site development design for grading, drainage, stormwater control, erosion control, and road design.
• Contribute to engineering projects supporting sales, operations, and continuous improvement efforts in manufacturing and processing plants.
• Partner with stakeholders to resolve engineering-related issues in concrete, aggregate, and cement operations.
• Lead process improvement initiatives and best practices to establish performance metrics (KPIs) focused on efficiency, quality, and cost control.
• Take on challenging assignments, including investigating, troubleshooting, and solving engineering and construction-related issues.
• Assist in developing permit and lease applications to secure approvals for mining and other facilities.
• Maintain strong attention to detail, organization, and prioritization skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, related fields, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of proven experience in the construction materials industry.
• Experience using technical software such as AutoCAD 2018 or higher and GIS; other math-based systems required; 3-D modeling is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret sketches and construction plans.
• Proficiency with the MS Office suite and industry-related computer software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Continuous improvement mindset, process methodology skills, and strong change management capability.
• Valid Driver License in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

• 7–10 years working in the construction materials industry with progressive, proven experience.
• Advanced working knowledge of mining and processing construction materials, including cement, aggregates, and ready-mix concrete.
• Engineering certifications or credentials.
• Knowledge of electrical systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
