Job Description

Idaho Power Company is hiring a Metering Engineer (Engineer I or II) to support revenue metering hardware and software systems at the Boise Operations Center.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical specifications, guidelines, and work methods for the design and construction of electric metering systems
  • Research and approve new metering equipment and materials
  • Track industry standards, trends, and enhancements in metering tools and technologies; update approaches to improve safety, reliability, and/or efficiency
  • Program revenue grade meters and associated communications systems
  • Implement and improve quality controls to ensure revenue metering is accurate and timely
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and training to field employees, designers, customers, and other stakeholders on proper electric metering design and construction practices
  • Plan and lead projects, assignments, and technical investigations
  • Serve as a liaison between other departments and organizations
  • Evaluate project progress and results; recommend changes to procedures
  • Apply moderate technical judgment for decision-making and independent action
  • Own budgeting, financial accountability, and timelines for assigned projects
  • Interpret and comply with regulations as required by NESC, OSHA, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, EUSERC, CAISO, etc.
  • Manage and coordinate projects; maintain effective working relationships
  • Work independently and on project teams; develop alternatives and evaluate their fit for company needs
  • Analyze datasets and databases
  • Draft written and oral reports covering problems, alternatives, and recommendations
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with meter applications, meter software and programs, and meter test equipment
  • Deliver meter software/program and meter technical training to field employees
  • Develop and implement meter quality control procedures and processes

Minimum Requirements

  • Engineer I: 0-2 years related experience
  • Engineer II: 2 or more years related experience

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Travel with out-of-town stays may be required

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • Bachelor in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited institution and a P.E. license

Engineer I (Scope)

  • Operate under general supervision and oversight while developing technical expertise

Engineer II (Scope)

  • Operate under limited supervision with intermediate technical expertise
  • Plan and lead moderately complex assignments and projects; interface with internal departments and external organizations
  • Receive high-level guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Office position with occasional field work
  • Work at a desk/computer for extended periods
  • Use office equipment; fine motor skills including typing, dialing phones, and filing
  • Occasional lifts of up to 10 lbs.
  • Walk on even/uneven surfaces and ascents/descents up to 5 miles daily while carrying 14-26 lbs. of equipment
  • Lifting of up to 36 lbs. and carrying up to 30 lbs. (up to 50 feet)
  • Hiking/Snowshoeing up to 1 mile
  • Climb ladders/racks and work within elevated lifts up to 40 feet high; use safety equipment
  • Rappelling up to 20 times yearly
  • Squatting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lying at ground level to work within confined spaces (power plants/dams/generators) for extended intervals up to a full shift
  • Driving required across IPC territory, 3-7 hours

  • USD 89,668 - 162,572 per yearly
