Job Description
Engineer II is an intermediate engineering role based in Charlotte, NC with hybrid work options. This position focuses on solving well-defined technical problems under general supervision while enabling the development of advanced skills with increasing independence.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering guidance and technical expertise for identifying, analyzing, and resolving clearly defined issues within the specialty area.
- Support team decision making toward business goals through planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring work, while adapting to changing priorities and situations; decisions may impact team outcomes.
- Prepare precise technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to problems of moderate scope and complexity.
- Conduct engineering studies; projects are clearly defined with a development focus, capable of completing routine projects with minimal oversight and designing, operating, and maintaining systems with minimal disruption to existing infrastructure.
- Apply fundamental concepts, practices and procedures, demonstrate proficiency in technical competencies, and interpret technical information and instructions.
- Develop positive working relationships to coordinate activities, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and maintain accurate records.
- Support the company’s goals and represent the organization in a professional manner.
- Maintain focus on operational excellence even during ambiguous conditions.
- Apply technical expertise to identify, analyze and resolve problems within the area of specialization.
- Actively seek and share information and perspectives to foster mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Ensure achievement of business goals through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
- Engage in frequent team calls and in-person meetings to coordinate and implement changes.

- Provide storm response support as needed and deliver quality designs.
- Maintain excellent communication with customers and co-workers.
Requirements
- A Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
- Minimum of two years of engineering experience.
- A Master of Engineering degree may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.

Working Conditions
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Hybrid mobility classification; work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after onboarding, and candidates should reside within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.
