Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Apply a broad set of engineering skills to identify effective solutions for facility related challenges.
  • Provide expert technical oversight to ensure designs and specifications are accurate, with the authority to approve plans based on demonstrated proficiency.
  • Act as a staff engineer and technical consultant, staying current with revisions and advancements in facility systems.
  • Advise stationary engineers, staff engineers, and building operators on improvements and methods for complex systems including METASYS, chilled water, thermal oxidizers, cooling towers, and boiler room components.
  • Prepare and process technical reports and engineering studies on critical facility matters that influence current and future plant operations.

Qualifications

  • Education: Engineering degree (ABET-accredited or equivalent).
  • Experience: Minimum one year of specialized work at a level equivalent to GS-12 (GS-13 equivalent requirement).
  • Knowledge: Apply a wide range of engineering or architectural principles to design and inspect buildings and facility systems.
  • Skills: Identify and troubleshoot issues with standard engineering practices, equipment, and processes related to renovations, restorations, and modernization of facilities.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate projects with other engineers, contractors, building operators, and stakeholders to improve facility systems.
  • Documentation: Prepare technical reports specific to facility engineering.

  • Telework opportunities exist in line with agency policy, along with flexible work schedules.
  • The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year’s Day; leave must be taken for those workdays.
  • Successful candidates will undergo personnel vetting, including a background investigation and enrollment in Continuous Vetting, plus FBI Rap Back enrollment for ongoing notifications of certain matters.
