Job Description
Fairfield, NJ onsite: Design and validate electronic control hardware for new and legacy product lines, from schematics through production support and regulatory testing.
- Analog and digital hardware design for existing and new products, including controls, sensors, communication devices, and test fixtures
- Own the hardware lifecycle: debug, launch support, maintenance, and ongoing field and customer support collaboration
- Hardware design reviews covering schematics, PCB layouts, component selection, and hardware change requests
- Support microcontroller-based control hardware including:
- Digital inputs and outputs
- Analog inputs and outputs
- Relays
- Communication circuits
- Sensors
- Low-voltage power supplies
- Lead and/or assist hardware-firmware integration during the product development cycle
- Develop and maintain production test fixtures, engineering test setups, and hardware validation tools
- Drive design for manufacturability and design for test
- Focus on reliability and long-term product support for deployed systems
- Handle component lifecycle needs:
- Component substitutions
- Component obsolescence actions
- Alternate part approvals
- Supplier-related technical evaluations
- Maintain design documentation including requirements, performance specifications, safety specifications, test specifications, hardware notes, wiring diagrams, BOM support, ECO support, and design verification records
- Support regulatory compliance activities and testing documentation for UL, FCC, CSA and other applicable certification agencies
- Coordinate hands-on collaboration across engineering, production, purchasing, quality, customer support, and outside certification agencies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent technical experience
- 5+ years of relevant hardware engineering experience preferred
- Strong skills in microcontroller and supporting digital circuit design and development
- Proficiency in analog design, including instrumentation, signal conditioning, sensor inputs, and low-voltage power supplies
- Experience applying circuit protection techniques for real-world field conditions (wiring errors, electrical noise, transients, shorts, installer-related issues)
- Strong circuit troubleshooting capability using laboratory test and measurement equipment
- Ability to read, understand, and review schematics and PCB layouts
- Experience with PCB design tools: Altium Designer, OrCAD, KiCad, Mentor Graphics, Eagle, or similar
- Strong communication, documentation, and logical problem-solving skills
- Ability to develop strategies, plan work, and meet project objectives
- Ability to work onsite and collaborate directly with engineering and production teams

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HVAC controls, building automation, industrial controls, or commercial electronic control products
- Experience with digital communication hardware and protocols including Modbus, RS-485, BACnet, Ethernet, cellular, LoRa, Wi-Fi, or similar technologies
- Experience with RF and digital instrumentation such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, signal sources, or similar equipment
- Familiarity with embedded C/C++ and firmware development
- Experience developing or supporting production test fixtures
- Altium Designer experience preferred; similar PCB design tools also considered

- Salary: USD 100,961.76 - 121,588.36 per year
